The 2025 Growth Mindset - March Update

The growth mindset continued …..

As Aristotle wisely said, “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” This timeless insight speaks to the heart of the matter: too often, we find ourselves repeating the same actions year after year yet expecting different results. The truth is life is constantly changing—and we have the power to adapt. By shifting from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset, we unlock our potential to evolve and grow.

March's Question: What is your purpose in life?

“Find your passion and lead a life of purpose.” That sounds inviting, doesn’t it? Discovering your purpose is a blend of self-reflection, exploration, and cultivating an open mindset. This phase is about discovery and embracing new experiences.

For some, purpose might mean making the world a better place. For others, it could be about achieving personal fulfilment or simply enjoying life to the fullest. But here’s an important question: Can a purpose-driven life help you live longer?

In a 2019 study published in JAMA Network Open, researchers found that among nearly 7,000 adults over the age of 50, those with a strong sense of "life purpose" were less likely to die during the four-year study period. They were also less likely to die from heart, circulatory, or blood conditions compared to those with lower life-purpose scores.

Eric S. Kim, PhD, a research scientist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, states, “This study showed for the first time that a sense of purpose in life is associated with specific causes of death, which is an exciting advancement of knowledge. “Having a clear life purpose was found to correlate with lower death rates, demonstrating the profound impact that purpose can have on our overall health.

So, in summary, it’s not just about emotional well-being—it’s about health in general! Remember, change one thing, and you may be surprised by what else shifts. A sense of purpose can make a world of difference.

March's Challenge: Ask yourself: What gives you a sense of purpose?
  • Helping others?

  • Being part of your community?

  • Family?

  • Learning new skills?

  • Hobbies and interests?

Tip: Ask your family, friends, or partner what strengths and talents they associate with you. Reflect on what truly matters to you. Meet new people and build a community that inspires you. Think about the obstacles you've overcome and how they shaped your purpose.

A Final Thought....

Be kind to yourself on this journey of discovery—treat yourself with the same care you would a friend in need. We change constantly over the course of our lives, and so do our goals and dreams. For some, it may take a lifetime to discover their purpose; for others, it’s been there all along. What matters most is bringing that purpose into conscious awareness.
